Cairo

The huge Egyptian capital, Cairo, is crossed by the Nile River. The heart of the city is home to Tahrir Square and the Egyptian Museum of Cairo, a treasure trove of antiquities with its royal mummies and the treasure of Pharaoh Tutankhamun. Not far from the museum is Giza with its legendary pyramids and the statue of the Sphinx, whose construction dates from the 26th century BC. In the forested district of Zamalek on the island of Gezira, one can admire a panoramic view of the city from the Cairo Tower, which rises 187 m above sea level.
